About Blue Planet Stories.
Most travel stories are about the where. This is a story about the why.
We are Egor and Alex, and we live on a sailboat. We tell stories from our slow travels: stories about communities, people, and their culture. We talk about places and how they impact those who live there and those who visit.
This is not a blog about boat maintenance, nor is it a “Top 10 Things to Do in Panama” guide. There are plenty of places on the internet for that.
Blue Planet Stories is an exploration of the “gravity of comfort” and the “discipline of departure.” It is about the tension between our deep human need for roots and the evolutionary urge to see what lies beyond the next headland.
The Philosophy of the Move
We believe that staying in one place for too long—even a place as beautiful as Bocas del Toro—can become a “prison with a view.” When the mountains become invisible because you see them every day, it is time to leave.
What You’ll Find Here
When you subscribe to Blue Planet Stories, you are joining us in the cockpit and the taxi cabs of the world. You can expect:
Essays: Long-form reflections on the psychology of movement, the sociology of the nomad, and the “internal” journey that happens while the external one is underway.
The Logbook: Raw, honest dispatches from the front lines of a life at sea. The heat, the bureaucracy of customs, the exhaustion of sailing weather, and the brief, perfect moments of clarity that make it all worth it.
Why Subscribe?
The world is getting smaller, but our understanding of it doesn’t have to. If you’ve ever felt the pull of the horizon, or the quiet fear of staying too long in a “velvet rut,” these stories are for you.
Join us as we navigate the Caribbean, the Pacific, and the complicated landscape of the human spirit.
We are a team of two. A husband and wife. Egor Korneev and Alex Essenburg. Thanks for reading.
